🇨🇭 SWITZERLANDChristoph Eberle
Christoph Eberle, born in 1969 in Zurich, Switzerland, is a contemporary hyperrealist painter whose work explores the relationship between reality, perception, and light. After graduating in architecture from ETH Zurich, he worked as a freelance graphic designer before dedicating himself entirely to painting.
Eberle’s large-format oil paintings are based on photographic observations of everyday life, yet they are not intended as literal reproductions. Instead, he transforms seemingly ordinary moments into carefully composed, independent pictorial worlds. His subjects range from still lifes and interiors to urban scenes, landscapes, and portraits. Light plays a central role, defining forms, creating atmosphere, and turning familiar situations into moments of unusual clarity and intensity.
Influenced by masters such as Vermeer, Caravaggio, Caspar David Friedrich, Gerhard Richter, and Franz Gertsch, Eberle combines the traditions of classical painting with the visual possibilities of contemporary photography. His works often resemble frozen film stills, suggesting that something has just happened – or is about to happen – while leaving the narrative open to the viewer’s imagination.
