🇩🇪 GERMANYGerd Lieder
Gerd Lieder was born in 1955 in Helbra, Germany. From an early age, he was fascinated by drawing and realism, developing his artistic interests alongside his technical training as a locksmith. In 1978, he moved to West Germany and later studied theater, art history, and German literature. His academic background strengthened his understanding of art as an intellectual and philosophical exploration of perception.
In 1994, Lieder began developing his first series of paintings. Reflections soon became a defining theme of his photorealistic work. Water, mirrors, glass, foil, and urban surfaces allow him to capture fleeting moments and explore the subtle boundary between reality and perception. Since 2000, he has lived and worked in Bremen, drawing inspiration from cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
Influenced by Vermeer, the French Impressionists, American photorealists, and particularly Franz Gertsch, Lieder creates large-format oil paintings that transform fragments of everyday reality into enigmatic visual experiences. His guiding principle is: “Mirrors of worlds – worlds of reflections.”
